Abstract:
On average, German firms expect about 7 percent productivity gains from AI for their own business by 2029. Expected gains are especially high in industries dominated by tasks like programming, writing, and customer service. Firms are more optimistic about macroeconomic productivity effects than their own gains, which may hint at "bubble-like" expectations. There is high uncertainty about these productivity gains and about the extent to which competitors are using AI. New information about AI's productivity potential and competitors' use of AI makes firms more optimistic and more likely to adopt AI.
