Abstract:
Abstract (Translated):
Insolvency-threatened companies require robust early warning systems in order to initiate a turnaround in time. This working paper combines a quantitative forecasting model for insolvency risk with a structured framework for turnaround management. Using a quantitative model, a four-stage risk level is derived, to which a standard strategy is assigned in each case. Building on this, typical endogenous and exogenous crisis causes are presented, along with a three-stage turnaround project plan (liquidity assurance, operational restructuring, strategic realignment). Standard strategies include, among others, value-based management (ROCE > WACC), the Turnaround BASIS strategy, a focus on core activities, as well as asset retrenchment and radical 50% shrinking. Finally, the key success factors and failure factors of turnaround management are compared and contrasted.
