Abstract (Translated):
This paper identifies the main inputs considered in the model of skill formation of Cunha and Heckman (2007) and the impact of household wealth on these inputs is estimated. For this, a socioeconomic index is constructed using the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) method. The results from applying Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) with residuals clusters and Seemingly Unrelated Regressions (SUR) show a direct link between the family's socioeconomic status (SES) and the mother's education inputs, child health status and enrolment in a pre-school education institution; however, the time invested in maternal child care shows an inverse relation with family wealth. The relation between SES and the educational environment gives evidence that educational inequalities begin from pre-school stages. This research was developed within the Instituto de Investigaciones Socio-Económicas de la Universidad Católica Boliviana, IISEC.
