Abstract (Translated):
This paper uses data from PNAD to detail the construction and analyze a multidimensional index of families' vulnerabilities within a spectrum of dimensions. In order to do so, this text interprets and adapts the methodology put forward by Barros, Carvalho and Franco (2006) and applies it to 83 possible spatial units according to the sample design allowed by the available data. The results indicate that the vulnerability of the families in Brazil is largely concentrated in rural areas, as well as in the states of Alagoas, Maranhão and Piauí and the countryside of the states of Ceará and Pernambuco. Besides that, the results show that there are relevant differences within the dimensions and the states studied; in relation to the quality of life inside and outside the metropolises and; there is considerable heterogeneity within the families in each state of Brazil.
