Abstract:
This working paper highlights the achievements of the Cypriot diplomacy and Nicosia's proactive engagement in the developments of the Eastern Mediterranean in the last two decades. Though this small island state has navigated a series of vicissitudes throughout its history, it has proven to be resilient and determined to defend its national interests, when faced with the hostility of great powers. Its membership in the EU and the recent recalibration of its foreign policy have opened new possibilities of cooperation and security enhancement, while increasing the country's international standing and power of negotiation.
