Abstract (Translated):
This article applied the input-output approach to identify the sectors with the greatest impact on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, considering not only direct emissions but also indirect ones through their productive linkages and those induced by income generation. It was found that most emissions are sectorally concentrated in livestock, meat processing, land transport, agriculture, the mineral industry, and the steel industry, respectively. Using the hypothetical extraction method, the exposure of the Brazilian economy to these activities was estimated across different dimensions. The most critical exposure lies in the impact on the trade balance, both in terms of percentage and rate of change, followed by tax revenue, while the potential impact on wage payments is the lowest among the dimensions analyzed. These results raise a warning about the challenges Brazil faces in implementing an ecological transition strategy, which must minimize its potential negative effects, especially on exchange rate stability and the level of international reserves.
