Abstract (Translated):
Germany spent the most on healthcare out of any country in the EU and is only surpassed worldwide by the USA. However, German health expenditure has not exploded despite the coronavirus pandemic. The declining share of German hospital expenditures is striking. A comparison with the Scandinavian countries shows that there is more potential for efficiency in this area.
