Abstract:
Abstract (Translated):
Different Fairtrade organizations are promising their customers to improve the living conditions of small-scale coffee farming families in the cultivating countries. This publication examines whether the participation in the Fairtrade system improves the living conditions of small-scale farming families, regardless of the development of their economic environment. Fairness is given in the course of this work, if a major part of the value growth Share lies in the developing countries. A detailed analysis of the increases in net value added showed that a majority (59% to 82%) of value added services is located in the western industrialized nations. Furthermore there are many economic factors which decrease the profit margin of small-scale farming families without being respected in the Fairtrade pricing system. To make Fairtrade fair the publication proposes a minimum price paid to small-scale farmers which adjust to several changes in the economic environment.
