Abstract: 
There have been many proposals to explain how the innovation process takes place within the firm. From the linear model to the so called network model, each proposal has offered some keys to implement efficient innovation processes in firms. This article objective is to shed some light on the innovation process through the revision of the different explaining models, in order to conclude with some of the most important features it has nowadays.
