Abstract:
We examine the impact of corruption on access to improved water services using a cross-country panel dataset covering 188 countries from 2012 to 2022. Our results indicate that corruption significantly reduces access to clean water - the effect is stronger in rural areas and in non-OECD countries. These findings highlight the importance of anti-corruption efforts for improving access to clean water.
