Abstract:
Despite seeing a surge in production and income in the early stages of the 2000s, farmers in both countries contended with stagnating incomes and reduced yields in the intervening years. By a mix of qualitative and quantitative methods - including gathering evidence from over 680 households across 13 villages in Mali and India - this report seeks to outline how households in India and Southern Mali have diversified their incomes to offset these reductions and limit their chances of slipping into poverty.
