Abstract:
Public selection processes are complex in nature. Multiple factors, which go beyond the strict mastery of technical knowledge, exert a significant influence on the probability of candidates being approved. The objective of this discussion paper (DP) is to investigate some of these factors - more specifically the attributes of the candidates, that proved to be relevant for their approval in the 2023 selection process of the Institute for Applied Economic Research (Ipea). These attributes, of a sociodemographic, socioeducational and sociolaboral nature, helped to compose the selectivity pattern of this selection process - which involved much more than the mastery of the knowledge defined in the program.
