Abstract:
Abstract (Translated):
In the context of advancing digitalisation, the crafts sector faces the challenge that, unlike other sectors, hardly any target group-specific digital training have been evaluated to date. This article presents the evaluation results for a digital CNC-training in the context of carpentry and stonemasonry. For this purpose, iterative design and evaluation cycles were carried out within the framework of user-centered design (ISO 9241-210:2019 2019 ) in order to assess usability. The results are discussed at various stages of the digital training development process in relation to Nielsen’s ( 1994 ) usability heuristics. The findings show that usability is not exclusively a technical quality feature, but also has far-reaching didactic consequences. In particular, the importance of interaction control becomes clear based on the evaluation results. Future research on the combined use of usability and learning effectiveness indicators is discussed. Practical Relevance : The presentation of the different usability foci makes it possible to visualize the development and evaluation processes at different points in time, which often remain hidden in the product development of digital training. The combination of usability heuristics and specific design decisions can be used to derive both beneficial and detrimental design principles for future digital training in the craft sector. The results presented provide concrete points of reference to help learning media developers, educational institutions and craft businesses design accepted, target group-specific solutions.
