Abstract:
Innovation is crucial for achieving net zero and tackling climate change. Top R&D firms are central players, generating 67 percent of all high-value green patents between 2012 and 2019. Green patenting by R&D companies has declined over time, with no boost after the Paris Agreement in 2015. Green technology specialization varies widely across sectors and countries. A clear and stable regulatory framework is key for aligning climate pledges with corporate innovation.
