Abstract (Translated): 
This paper presents the results of the updates of researches of traffic accidents costs in Brazil carried out by Ipea and the ANTP last decade. The study shows that the brazilian people loses about R$ 50.00 billion a year from traffic accidents, which highlights the costs of production loss of the victims and also hospital costs. The text also discusses some public policies needed to reduce the number and lethality of accidents in Brazil.
