Title: The development logic of capital under socialism with Chinese characteristics
Authors: Fan, Xin; Song, Xiaoyu
Abstract: Purpose - Regulating and guiding the sound development of capital under a socialist system is not only a significant theoretical innovation rooted in Chinese practice by the Communist Party of China (CPC) but also a major practical exploration for the smooth progression of the party and the nation's modernization endeavors. Design/methodology/approach - Adopting an analytical framework that unifies theoretical, historical and practical logic, this paper explores the rationality of capital's existence under a socialist system based on the notion that capital is a materialized production relationship. It also examines the staged evolution of capital theory under socialism, highlighting the great leap forward realized by the capital theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Findings - With the CPC Central Committee's deepening understanding of the capital patterns in the socialist system, capital-related policies have undergone a developmental journey through several stages - from the negation and elimination of capital to the support and operation of capital and finally to the stage of regulating and guiding capital. This reflects the reciprocal and complementary relationship between capital theory and capital policy. Originality/value - In response to issues such as the disorderly expansion of capital in the new development stage, it is imperative to actively promote a practical pathway safeguarded by the adherence to Party leadership, guided by the capital theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics and targeted toward common prosperity.

The thought of community with a shared future for mankind and the construction of China's international political economy

Title: The thought of community with a shared future for mankind and the construction of China's international political economy
Authors: Sun, Jingyu
Abstract: Purpose - Central to this paper, Western international political economy cannot well explain China's peaceful development and its political and economic ties with the outside world, and it is even more difficult to reflect the characteristics of the times that the great changes unseen in a century and socialism with Chinese characteristics have entered into a new era, which are synchronously intertwined and mutually agitated. Constructing China's international political economy not only emphasizes the Chinese perspective, Chinese discourse and Chinese narrative but also examines the development trend and major problems facing the world from the height of world history and applies the position, viewpoints and methods of Marxist historical materialism to observe the times, interpret the times and lead the times. Design/methodology/approach - Looking back at the development of China's international political economy, from introducing Western international political economy to increasingly emphasizing the Chinese perspective, Chinese discourse and Chinese narrative, we analyze the distinctive features of China's international political economy from Western international political economy. Findings - The thought of community with a shared future for mankind is the latest development and concentrated embodiment of Marxist thought on world history in the 21st century, which gives China's international political economy a distinctive epochal, scientific and practical character, stipulates the research stance and fundamental purpose, establishes the research theme and main line and expands the research space for the construction of Chinese international political economy. Originality/value - The construction of China's international political economy is not only to create a "Chinese school" of international relations but more importantly to construct a discourse and academic system of China's international political economy that can understand and grasp the changes in the world, the times and history, providing academic support for in-depth thinking and answering the question of "What is wrong with the world? What should we do?" and contributing Chinese wisdom.

Terms of trade, ecologically unequal exchange and environmental problems in developing economies

Title: Terms of trade, ecologically unequal exchange and environmental problems in developing economies
Authors: Feng, Zhixuan; Liu, Fengyi
Abstract: Purpose - Utilizing the Marxist theory of unequal exchange to explain the terms of trade between nations, this paper elucidates one possible mechanism that gives rise to ecologically unequal exchange between developed and developing economies. Design/methodology/approach - We propose a two-sector linear production model and demonstrate that a decrease in the organic composition of capital and an increase in the rate of surplus value in a sector will lead to a relative price decrease and value transfer out of that particular sector, as well as increasing the environmental costs of trade. Furthermore, we measure the levels of unequal exchange (value transfer) and ecologically unequal exchange of 40 economies and empirically validate their relationship. Findings - The findings suggest that an important cause of the ecologically unequal exchange is the value transfer between economies caused by the international division of labor and real wage disparities. The inequality in international trade is a significant factor contributing to the gap in the ecological environment level between developed and developing economies. Originality/value - By introducing the theory of unequal exchange or value transfer into the analysis of ecological unequal exchange, we provide a mathematical framework for analyzing ecological unequal exchange and a method for calculating the scale of ecological unequal exchange and value transfer, thereby enhancing the theoretical depth and practical significance of the ecological unequal exchange theory.

A study on the mechanisms of building a new development pattern through new urbanization from the perspective of industrial capital circulation

Title: A study on the mechanisms of building a new development pattern through new urbanization from the perspective of industrial capital circulation
Authors: Jiao, Fangyi; Zhang, Dongchao; Zheng, Xiyue
Abstract: Purpose - This paper analyzes and discusses the fundamental role of new urbanization in the construction of a new development pattern based on the specific practice of China's new urbanization construction, combining the classical Marxist ideas in urbanization and the theory of the industrial capital circulation, and proposes to remove blockages in the domestic and international circulations through developing new urbanization and construct a new development pattern with the domestic circulation as the mainstay and the domestic and international circulations promoting each other, thereby achieving high-quality national economic operation. Design/methodology/approach - Based on the theory of industrial capital circulation, this paper elucidates the general process of domestic and international economic circulations, critically examines the bottlenecks and challenges in economic circulation, and emphasizes the mechanisms through which new urbanization contributes to the formation of a new development pattern. Findings - The people-centered new urbanization can effectively release domestic demand, optimize investment supply, and stabilize market participants' expectations, linking the national economic circulation from production to consumption and alleviating supply and demand mismatches, which has a fundamental role in building the new development pattern. Originality/value - We should focus on creating a comprehensive domestic demand system based on counties while fostering a unified domestic market led by urban clusters and metropolitan areas to stabilize and enhance the expectations of both domestic and international market participants.
