Abstract: This paper aims at exploring the contexts of academic research outputs faced by Lebanese researchers at four major Lebanese business schools. It analyzes both challenges and support mechanisms at these institutions to suggest improvements to the existing framework considering the researchers' perspectives and opinions. A multiple case study was carried out at four major Lebanese business schools in which 14 individuals involved in research were interviewed. Thematic analysis was carried out to explore the host of challenges faced in the sphere of research output. This study may provide other institutions and researchers in the region and the developing world with a greater insight into necessary alterations to their own research challenges and approaches.</summary>

    <summary type="text">Title: The relationship between CEO characteristics and banks' risk-taking: Review and research directions

Abstract: The fundamental role of the banking sector in society and the economy necessitates extensive regulation and supervision. Given that increased risk-taking behavior can undermine the stability of the banking sector, it is crucial to identify the factors affecting banks' risk-taking. This study focuses on the impact of chief executive officer (CEO) characteristics on banks' risk-taking behavior. To achieve this, we conduct a systematic literature review and analyze the findings through the lens of the upper echelons theory (UET) framework. Our analysis reveals that banks' risk-taking is measured in diverse and often arbitrary ways, highlighting the need for standardized measurement methods to ensure comparability. Our findings also indicate that various CEO characteristics, including demographic, psychological, social psychological, biological, and other traits, significantly influence banks' risk-taking. These results suggest that stringent regulations do not serve as a boundary condition for UET. We propose five research avenues, include new methods for measuring CEO characteristics (such as linguistic approaches), explore new areas of research based on the developments of UET (such as moderators and the objective situation), refine the measurement of banks' risk-taking, address questions regarding control variables, and identify additional CEO characteristics of major interest (such as emotional intelligence or CEO attractiveness). Our study underscores the relevance of UET in banking, providing valuable insights for practitioners, academics, and regulators.</summary>

Abstract: Rising energy and CO2 prices are driving industrial companies to focus increasingly on energy efficiency and flexibility to remain competitive. Besides technical improvements, smart energy services like nonintrusive load monitoring (NILM) are promising approaches to increasing a company's energy efficiency and flexibility potential. Despite its advantages, smart energy services are not yet widely used in practice, and service providers are cautious. Existing research investigates almost exclusively technical aspects of smart energy service applications and systems, particularly for NILM, while a business model perspective is missing. This study addresses this research gap following a design science research approach with literature research and expert interviews, and develops a business model framework-the Smart Energy Service Canvas (SESC). The SESC is a practical and empirically validated tool to formalize, structure, and implement a business idea on smart energy services.</summary>

    <summary type="text">Title: Unlocking the potential of predictive maintenance for intelligent manufacturing: A case study on potentials, barriers, and critical success factors

Abstract: Predictive maintenance (PdM) is a data-driven maintenance strategy that aims to avoid unplanned downtimes by predicting the remaining lifetime of maintenance objects. Thus, unnecessary replacements of spare parts and critical process disturbances due to breakdowns can be avoided. Despite the widely recognized advantages of this technology, the number of successful applications in practice is still very limited. Our study aims to address the theory-practice gap by conducting a comprehensive case study involving 15 expert interviews with industry professionals to uncover critical factors that hinder the successful implementation of PdM. Our findings shed light on the underlying reasons for a hesitant PdM implementation, including challenges related to digital readiness, data quality and accessibility, technological integration, and maintenance organization. By providing an in-depth analysis of these factors, our study offers valuable insights and guidelines to improve the implementation success rate of PdM in the industrial context. Based on the empirical findings, we present critical implementation factors and develop a framework with ten propositions that aim to dismantle barriers in the industrial application process of PdM and stimulate further research in academia.</summary>
