Editors: Wood, Matthew
Abstract: This is the Open Access edition of Global Focus from the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD). Global Focus has become one of the most authoritative resources for in-depth analysis and updates on international management development. With features, topical reports, thought leadership and insight from leading experts from academia, business schools, companies and consultancies, this edition focuses on business school internationalisation. This eighteenth volume focuses on the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI), with insights into topics such as the role of AI in corporate learning by Martin Moehrle, reshaping business education using hands-on AI by Ana Freire, and whether generative AI is a threat to the world of teaching and learning by Pär Mårtensson and John Mullins. The topic of the impact of business school research is explored by Kai Peters and Howard Thomas, and Usha Haley, Cary Cooper and Andrew Jack look at societal impact through sustainable scholarship. Chapters also focus on important aspects of working in business and business schools, such as Dan Pontefract's discussion of loneliness both within and beyond the workplace and the importance of 'finding your people', and insights for developing an international scholar career presented by Miguel Córdova. This book will be of value and interest to those working in business schools and higher education leaders, as well as policy makers and business leaders seeking insight into how management education will be shaped to support business and wider society.

Title: Governance, Regulation and Management of Global Sport Organisations
Authors: Bayle, Emmanuel
Abstract: This book is a bold and ambitious analysis of the challenges facing global sport in the 21st century and how those challenges can be met through good governance, management and regulation. Connecting the political and managerial dimensions of sport, from international governing bodies such as the International Olympic Committee through to national governing bodies, leagues and professional sport organisations, the book offers a new way of thinking about the trajectory of contemporary sport. Adopting an innovative multi-level approach - across macro, meso and micro levels – the book explores the key challenges currently facing sport, including the rapid emergence of new sports such as MMA and adventure sports; the arrival of new actors in the international sport ecosystem, such as the Gulf states and private equity investment; the growth of new technologies, such as AI; and socio-political and developmental issues such as integrity, sustainability, demographic change and sport-for-development. It considers the interaction of actors at different levels, from states to athletes and across the public and private sectors, and explores different models of sport around the world, including the dominant European and North American models. Its findings support the argument that current and future international sports governance and regulation require a more complex and nuanced method of analysis. Offering a new vision for global sport, this is essential reading for advanced students, researchers, policymakers or practitioners working in sport management, governance or policy, or with a general interest in strategy, governance or public policy.

Title: Latin American Economic History: An Introduction to Daily Life, Debt, and Development
Authors: Ball, Molly C.
Abstract: Latin American Economic History: An Introduction to Daily Life, Debt, and Development guides readers through significant features and developments in the region's economic history from independence through 2022. In approachable language, the book introduces readers to relevant New Economic History concepts and explains important characteristics of Latin America, such as the region's high volatility, rapid urbanization experience, the continued prominence of commodities, and its culture of informality. The volume provides explicit connections between culture, politics, and economics over five distinct time periods. Readers will learn how Cinco de Mayo featured into foreign debt repayments in the nineteenth century, how novels like Gabriel García Márquez'sOne Hundred Years of Solitude reflected on the expansion of railroads during a period of export-led growth, and how a United States federal reserve interest hike in 1979 sent the region into the Lost Decade. When considered collectively, the region's economic trajectory demonstrates that development does not always accompany economic growth. This is an accessible introductory text with clear definitions and discussions of relevant economic concepts, which will be a valuable resource for students of Latin American economic, cultural, and political history.
