Abstract:
Die Begriffe Wohlfahrt und Wohlstand werden in ihrem dogmenhistorischen Entstehungskontext untersucht. Dabei wird zum einen der Schwerpunkt auf die von den Physiokraten, aber auch von John Stuart Mill, W. Stanley Jevons und sogar von deutschen Ordoliberalen thematisierten Wachstumsgrenzen gelegt (Teil 2), zum anderen wird die Entwicklung der neoklassischen Ökonomik seit 1850 betrachtet, die bis in die zweite Hälfte des letzten Jahrhunderts um eine quasi-naturwissenschaftliche nutzentheoretische Fundierung dieser Begriffe bemüht war (Teil 3).

Welfare and wealth are discussed as central economic notions in the context of the history of economic thought. One focus is laid on the limits to economic growth discussed already by 18th century Physiocrats and in the 19th century especially by John Stuart Mill and W. Stanley Jevons; the other focus is on the evolution of neoclassical economics up to the 2nd half of the 20th century, with special emphasis on its various attempts establish utilitarian foundations for these notions.
